At the bank

5 Minutes of French is a nice and short French lesson that can be done under 5 minutes. Its purpose is to make the French language learning fast and effective. The 5 minutes of French covers only the most useful and pragmatic vocabulary, grammar and everyday French expressions significant to any beginner of intermediate learner of French. Now you have no excuse not to learn French !


This lesson / article relates to CEFR requirements for B1 level of French. 

A person with A1 level: 

  • can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.
  • can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.


A la banque

– Bonjour, je voudrais ouvrir un compte bancaire.

– Très bien. Il me faudra votre pièce d'identité et un justificatif de domicile

– Qu'est-ce que vous voulez comme justificatif de domicile ? 

– Cela peut être votre facture d'éléctricité, facture de loyer, ou une facture de votre fournisseur d'internet. 


  • ouvrir: to open
  • un compte bancaire: a bank account
  • il me faudra: I will need a …. ("faudra" comes from the verb "falloir" which means "need to / have to". Here it is in the simple future tense. "il me faudra" is in impersonal form). 
  • une pièce d'identité: an id card. 
  • un justificatif de domicile: a proof of adress (it is a very common word, expecially if you are looking dealing with administrative things) 
  • comme: as …, like …
